Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone.
It's St. Patrick's Day, and Ford has taken to the occasion by announcing that a new color, Need for Green, will be available on the 2019 Mustang.
"This is a color Mustang fans will celebrate because of its confident and youthful attitude," Ford color and materials manager Barbara Whalen explained in a statement. "Need for Green is vibrant and jumps out at you, giving Mustang owners a look that definitely stands out in a crowd."
While the name is perhaps not as clever as that of some traditional Dodge muscle cars, the hue definitely stands out. It's not as subdued as a British green or as light as the nature-like green preferred by Subaru. It is a proper kelly green, a shade inspired by the lush scenery of Ireland — very appropriate for the holiday. Oddly enough, it was originally slated to be called Spinel Green.
Of course, the Mustang is no stranger bold names for its green. From 2013 to 2014, Ford sold Gotta Have It Green, a bright metallic lime, and from 2005 to 2006 there was Legend Lime, inspired by the Medium Lime Metallic of the 1970 Mustangs. Bullitt edition Mustangs have always been offered in Highland Green, as inspired by the 1968 Mustang featured in the movie of the same year.
Ford says that Need for Green will be available across the Mustang line, and will hit showrooms in summer of 2018.
