We most likely won't see it in America.
Ford has repeatedly denied it's working on a Fiesta RS. The ST is as hot as it's going to get, at least for the current-generation model. And yet, a recent report suggests the hottest of all Fiesta models will make its debut around the turn of the decade.
Ford assigned a small group of engineers and designers to work on the project in absolute secrecy. Motoring reports Ford Performance is busily working on the car, along with a dual-clutch automatic transmission for the existing Fiesta ST.
There's no word yet on what will power the Fiesta RS. The updated ST sold overseas (pictured) packs a turbocharged, 1.0-liter three-cylinder tuned to produce 197 horsepower. We don't know how much more power Ford can squeeze out of the triple. While nothing is official yet, it's not too far-fetched to assume the RS will get a four-cylinder engine. Transmission and drivetrain options remain unconfirmed.
Ford hasn't confirmed the report. Even if it's true, it won't make much of a difference for American enthusiasts. Like we previously reported, the Blue Oval remains committed to phasing out the Fiesta -- along with most of its passenger cars -- from the North American market in the coming years.
