Ford reveals diesel Ranger Raptor in Thailand

The Ranger has been beefed up to handle much more extreme off-road adventures.

Ford has revealed the Ranger Raptor at a media event for the Asia Pacific market.

The little Raptor has much wider than the standard Ranger, with more than 11 inches of ground clearance, a 32.5-degree approach angle, 24-degree ramp-over angle and 24-degree departure angle.

The flared fenders are produced from composite materials to shrug off light impacts, with enough extra room inside to accommodate long-travel suspension. The modified rear bumper integrates an integrated tow bar and two recovery hooks.

Engineers have reinforced the Raptor's frame and added Fox Racing Shox to handle the punishment of high-speed impacts. The rear suspension has also been upgraded with coilovers and a solid axle with a Watt's-link system.

The Asia Pacific-spec Ranger Raptor is powered by a new 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine with 211 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Power is delivered via a 10-speed automatic gearbox shared with the F-150 Raptor.

The press release suggests the Ranger Raptor will turn heads "throughout Asia Pacific and around the world." Ford has already confirmed plans to bring the Ranger back to the US market, however the company has made any commitment on the Raptor edition. It will be presumably added to the US lineup at some point, likely with a gasoline engine and some other tweaks.
