The Gran Coupe showcases BMW's vision for an all-electric performance car.
After introducing the wild Next 100 concepts last year, BMW has followed up with several tamer concepts, including the i Vision Dynamics, that reel in the fantasy.
The Dynamics represents BMW's nearer-term vision for an all-electric performance Gran Coupe, bridging the gap between the two-door i8 and the boxy i3.
"With the i3 and i8 we have designed a revolutionary city car and a revolutionary sports car," says BMW Group Design senior vice president Adrian van Hooydonk. "And now the BMW i Vision Dynamics is combining electric mobility with the core values of BMW: dynamism and elegance."
The concept maintains BMW's characteristic long wheelbase, flowing roofline and short overhangs. The kidney grille has been reinterpreted as an angular hoop surrounding a solid body panel, certain to spark controversy.
The German automaker suggests the i Vision Dynamics will have a range of 373 miles, a top speed over 120 mph and an acceleration of zero to 62 mph in just four seconds.
No less than a dozen pure-electric vehicles will be added to the BMW lineup by 2025. The i Vision Dynamics presumably hints at one of the models, though some of its most exaggerated styling elements will likely be ditched before the production car arrives in showrooms.
