GM is improving its Kentucky Corvette plant.

General Motors is upgrading its Bowling Green, Kentucky, plant, where the automaker produces the Chevrolet Corvette sports car, with a $290 million investment.According to GM, it will use the money to "upgrade and modify the plant's vehicle assembly operations with new technologies and processes." Although not specifically mentioned, GM might be using the money to upgrade the plant in preparation for a next-generation Corvette ZR1, or possibly even the long-rumored mid-engine Corvette.

"We are making technology investments that will continue to improve our manufacturing processes and ultimately the quality of our vehicles," said North American Manufacturing Manager Arvin Jones. "We are putting Corvette customers first by building upon our world-class manufacturing process."

GM will begin the plant upgrades this summer.

Bowling Green has been home to the Chevrolet Corvette since 1981.
