The functional hood scoop hints at a new engine for the heavy-duty Sierra.General Motors has published the first pictures of its 2017 GMC Sierra Denali 2500HD.The company has not yet provided much of a description, aside from pointing out the functional hood scoop that hints at "what is beneath its bold new appearance."
The statement suggests there is something new under the hood, potentially serving as a successor to the 6.6-liter Duramax engine. The turbodiesel V8 delivers 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque for GM's current HD pickups.
The Duramax oil burner has been further upstaged by the latest Ram 3500's 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine, tweaked to deliver a stump-pulling 900 lb-ft of torque for the 2016 model year.
GM promises to announce additional details and information for its 2017 heavy-duty pickups "in the coming months." The trucks will presumably begin landing in showrooms later in the year.
