You'll have to spend a little bit more money if you're in the market for a 2018 Honda Civic Type R. The Japanese brand just raised the price of its hottest hatchback, according to a recent report.
As of May 1st, the base Civic Type R carries a base price of $35,595 including a mandatory destination $895 charge, website Cars Direct reports. That figure represents a $600 increase in MSRP and a $5 increase in the destination charge. The Type R is still cheaper than the Volkswagen Golf R and the Subaru WRX STI, its main rivals on the American market now that Ford has stopped building the Focus RS.
The Civic Type R remains a mono-spec model; the rumors of a stripped-out entry-level variant priced closer to the $30,000 threshold haven't materialized yet. The price increase isn't accompanied by any new features. Honda hasn't explained why it needed to ask more for the car once again.
It's not just the Civic that's getting more expensive. Honda increased the destination charge of every car it sells by $5, and it also made every variant of the Civic $100 more expensive.
