The secondary backup latch may not adequately secure the hood if the primary latch fails.

Hyundai has launched a recall campaign for the 2016 Tucson to replace a faulty hood latch. The company warns that the crossover's secondary backup latch may not adequately hold the hood by itself if the primary latch fails or has been accidentally left unsecured while the vehicle is in motion.

"f the primary hood latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch cannot secure the hood, the hood may unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a crash," recall documents say.

Service technicians will install a new secondary hood latch in approximately 81,000 vehicles.

It is unclear if the defect has been associated with any accidents or injuries.
