Service technicians will install a new wiring harness to restore proper behavior.Hyundai has initiated a recall program for 2016 Tucson crossovers equipped with a tow package. The trailer hitch wiring system may be defective, preventing the trailer turn signals from blinking when the vehicle's engine is running and the brake lights are illuminated. The vehicles consequently fail to comply with federal safety regulations.
"Failure to illuminate the trailer's turn signal lights would prevent the communication of the driver's intent, increasing the risk of a crash," the company warns.
An investigation determined that the trailer wiring harness supplied by Mobis may not be compatible with the new Tucson's power supply circuitry. The issue is limited to the third-generation model, affecting 2,263 units in the US market.
