Hyundai teases fuel cell electric truck

The hydrogen-powered truck will hit the European market next year.

Automakers like Volvo and Tesla have announced plans to build pure-electric commercial trucks, but Hyundai is taking a different direction with a new truck powered by hydrogen.

Hyundai is one of the pioneering automakers in hydrogen fuel-cell technology, so it should come as little surprise that the clean tech is branching over to the company's commercial truck division. Hyundai says its eco-friendly truck is set to debut sometime next year.

Ahead of that 2019 introduction, Hyundai has released a single teaser image of its hydrogen-powered truck. The fuel cell electric truck will look mostly like a normal commercial vehicle, but will boast a unique grille design and blue side body graphics.

Hyundai will use the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 in Hanover, Germany to announce more details on the hydrogen-electric truck. The truck will initially be sold in the European market, but it's possible it could make its way to the United States sometime in the future.
