Infiniti developing new electrified platform from Q Inspiration

Vehicles built upon the electrified platform will enter production within five years.

Infiniti has confirmed plans to develop a new electrified platform architecture related to the Q Inspiration concept car.

The concept showcases Infiniti's vision for a future design language, next-generation automation features and powertrain technology, packaged in a sleek four-door sedan.

"The Q Inspiration concept car takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next stage of evolution," says Infiniti design boss Karim Habib. "A shift towards smarter, more compact and less intrusive powertrains; we were able to create an alternative form with flowing gestures, more engaging in character and more enriching in experience."

The concept is powered by the company's innovative variable compression (VC) turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The latest announcement presumably involves some form of hybrid powertrain and hints at a pure electric configuration.

The electrified production car represents one of five new vehicles that will roll off Infiniti's assembly lines in China over the next five years.
