Geneva LIVE: Infiniti QX30 Concept

The company has confirmed production intentions for the QX30, with a market arrival in 2016.

Infiniti has fully revealed its QX30 Concept at the Geneva Motor Show.

The QX30 brings a striking resemblance to the Q30 Concept, albeit in a taller form with a restyled two-tone bumper and repositioned exhaust outlets. The crossover's sculpted, muscular appearance is consistent with its lower-riding counterpart, but with larger 21-inch wheels and increased blackout around the wheel opening.

Stylistically, the QX30 also appears to take inspiration from the sleek Etherea concept that debuted at the Geneva show back in 2011. The driving position has been raised higher than the Etherea and Q30, however, with slim U-shaped seat frames wrapped in Connolly saddle leather with blue contrast stitching.

The company has already confirmed production plans for the Q30 and QX30, though the designs will likely be toned down to some extent before arriving on the market. The Q30 will begin production in the UK this year, while the crossover edition will arrive sometime in 2016.

Previous reports have pointed to Mercedes-Benz' MFA platform as the backbone for both models. The FWD-based MFA architecture underpins several Mercedes models, including the CLA-Class sedan and the GLA-Class crossover. The crossover's engine compartment will likely feature a variant of the Mercedes 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that does duty in the CLA. The company has not yet confirmed which engines will be available, though a "wide range" of gasoline and diesel mills are promised.

The QX30 will reportedly be positioned beneath the QX50, although it could also end up being a de facto replacement for that sporty but slow-selling soft-roader, which might be discontinued after the current model cycle.
