Infiniti previews Prototype 10 electric concept

Infiniti's sleek EV design teases the company's high-performance aspirations.

Infiniti will unveil its Prototype 10 all-electric concept at Pebble Beach next Thursday, giving us a glimpse of what a high-performance EV from Nissan's luxury subsidiary could look like. Today, the company teased its upcoming prototype with a single, full-body artist's rendition.

The Prototype 10 is a single-seat speedster that borrows design elements from Infiniti's Q Inspiration concept--itself an electrified prototype from which the company plans to develop an EV platform.

While the Q Inspiration had a production-like feel to it, the Prototype 10 is a wildly futuristic "what if" style design study that hearkens back to the days of single-seat European roadsters, making it more akin to a Morgan three-wheeler than anything else on the road today.

"The [...] Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered, single-seat competition cars," said Executive Design Director Karim Habib in the announcement.

"Our new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterize d by the simple love of driving."

Infiniti will lift the sheet off the Prototype 10 in the next week. Stay tuned.
