The affordable coupe segment is about to get even smaller. Kia has confirmed the two-door Forte Koup is not long for this world. "To better align with our customers' purchasing trends, KMA will discontinue the two-door Koup following the sell-down of remaining 2016 model year inventory," Kia spokesman James Hope revealed in an interview with CarsDirect.

Like many of its peers, the Forte Koup fell victim to the growing popularity of crossovers and SUVs. Small, two-door cars were never that popular to begin with in the United States, and sales have fizzled out in the past few years.

Buyers who want to pick up Kia's two-door Forte before it gets sent to the great junkyard in the sky have two trim levels to choose from. The entry-level EX model is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 173 horsepower. The sportier SX benefits from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four tuned to generate 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 pound-feet of torque from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm.

Both engines send their power to the front wheels. The 2.0-liter exclusively comes with a six-speed automatic, while the 1.6-liter is also available with a six-speed manual.

The 2016 Kia Forte Koup EX starts at $19,890. The SX carries a base price of $20,690. Kia hasn't revealed how many Forte Koups are left in its inventory.
