Lamborghini will reportedly unveil a road-going version of its Gallardo Super Trofeo race car at the upcoming Frankfurt show.

Lamborghini hinted that it will reveal a "super sports car" at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, but a new report indicates the car destined for the Frankfurt stage might not be the car first expected.

When word of Lamborghini's Frankfurt reveal first hit the Web, most reports pointed to a production version of the company's Sesto Elemento Concept car. While the track-only Sesto Elemento certainly fits the bill of a super sports car, it may not be the car on hand at the Frankfurt show.

According to AutoExpress, Lamborghini will use the September show to introduce a high-performance version of its Gallardo coupe. The special edition Gallardo is expected to essentially be a road-legal version of its Super Trofeo one-maker series racing car.

The Gallardo Super Trofeo will be powered by a 562 horsepower version of Lamborghini's 5.2L V10, with shifting duties handled by a six-speed e-gear transmission. The track-inspired Lambo will also feature a full racing suspension and a curb weight of just 2,866 pounds - that's 88 pounds lighter than even the Gallardo Superleggera. That should translate into so serious performance, with a reported 0-60 time of three seconds and a top speed of 210mph.

Lamborghini will likely cap Gallardo Super Trofeo production at just 30 units, with each carrying a price tag of about $325,000.
