Land Rover teases next-gen Defender

Styling detail is still covered by camouflage ahead of an official unveiling next year.

Land Rover has released a teaser image for the next-generation Defender.

The SUV is still shrouded in camouflage and the image caption quips "do not unwrap until 2019," suggesting the company is not planning to fully reveal the off-roader until next year, though there is also a date of December 27 that hints at a better look next week.

Consistent with recent spy shots, the camouflaged teaser appears to confirm the Defender will retain its iconic boxy form.

Despite the classic lines, the new Defender will be extensively modernized to maximize rider comfort and on-road handling without sacrificing off-road prowess. Spy shots point to two variants at first, the smaller Defender 90 and longer Defender 110, while rumors indicate a Defender Sport is under development for arrival in 2026.

The redesigned Defender is expected to arrive on the market sometime in 2020.
