The new IS is styled to match Lexus' latest L-finesse design language.

Lexus has released its first teaser image for the next-generation IS, due to make its debut at the Beijing Motor Show.

The teaser focuses on a redesigned headlight, apparently integrating several LEDs above the chevron daytime running light. The front end appears to bring a more aggressive appearance, with pronounced sculpting around the Lexus' iconic trapezoidal spindle grille.

"The upcoming new model will bring exciting breakthroughs based on the Lexus signature L-finesse design philosophy," the company promises. "The bold evolution of design with greatly enhanced visual impact will absolutely ignite people's desire to put their hands on the steering wheel."

The fourth-generation IS will presumably bring a few technological upgrades and interior enhancements, among other new features.

It is unclear if the redesigned compact sedan will receive any new powertrains. The US market recently received the 200t variant for the 2016 model year, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A 300 AWD package is also new, opting for a 3.5-liter V6 with 255 ponies and 236 lb-ft of torque.

Additional details could be disclosed ahead of Lexus' formal unveiling event.
