One of the two cars on hand will make production.
Lexus will travel to this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas to show two new versions of its LC 500 flagship coupe inspired by Marvel Studios' "Black Panther."
The first of the two vehicles is known as the 2018 LC Inspiration Series. Lexus says the LC will be the first of several vehicles in its lineup to get the Inspiration Series treatment; the automaker says is plans to create an Inspiration Series model for each of its flagship vehicles, which presumably includes the LS sedan and LX SUV.
The 2018 Lexus LC 500 Inspiration Series will be easily recognizable by its iridescent Structural Blue color. Lexus says the unique hue took eight months to develop and, despite its outward appearance, doesn't contain any blue pigment. Instead, the paint, which was inspired by the morpho butterfly, was engineered to only reflect blue light.
In addition to its distinct shade of blue, the LC Inscription Series also features carbon fiber scuff plates, a bespoke white interior, 21-inch wheels and a Barneys sommelier set.
Lexus will produce just 100 units of the LC Inscription Series. Pricing will be announced closer to the car's spring 2018 launch date.
The other LC destined for Vegas is called the Black Panther Inspired LC. It's largely based on the LC Inscription Series, but with a few out-of-this-world optional extras.
The LC show car's bodywork has been reinforced with a layer of vibranium weave, making the vehicle almost entirely bulletproof. Under hood, the Panther Inspired LC is powered by a vibranium-powered core that allows for self-sustaining fueling.
Other unique features of the concept include pulsating underbody glow, side view mirrors that mimic a panther's claw, Black Panther mask inlay on the hood, self-healing paint, a wide-body kit, a unique Wakandan B-CPU (Brain/Computer Interface) and a remote-drive function.
Both cars will take to the show stage on October 31.
