The Super Series helped push McLaren to a new sales record.
2017 proved to be banner year for McLaren Automotive, with the supercar maker announcing on Friday that it set a new company record for total sales last year.
McLaren delivered a total of 3,340 cars in 2017 -- up from 3,286 in 2016 -- with the vast majority of those sales coming from the automaker's more affordable Sport Series family of vehicles. Cars like the 540C and 570S accounted for 2,119 deliveries in 2017, up from 2,031 in 2016.
McLaren's Sports Series — which includes only the 720S at present time — also performed well in 2017. The line accounted for 1,221 deliveries, which is on par with the year prior, despite the fact that the 720S was only on sale for about half of the year.
"Demand has been strong for McLaren Automotive across our product families in 2017, with interest particularly robust in our biggest market, North America," said Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Automotive. "The majority of sales came from the Sports Series family, our brand entry point that is achieving significant interest and attracting new customers. With a strong order bank stretching well into this summer, it is expected that close to half of 2018 sales will derive from the Super Series."
North America accounted for 1,234 deliveries in 2017, up from 1,139 in 2016.
