McLaren teases Speedtail

The company's fastest-ever car will be revealed on October 26.

McLaren has released a teaser photo for the forthcoming Speedtail, the next entry in the Ultimate Series lineup.

Billed as the first-ever Hyper-GT, the Speedtail aims to raise the bar as the fastest McLaren ever built. The company has not announced a target velocity but it must be clearly higher than 243 mph.

Like the P1, the new Ultimate Series will benefit from a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. Combined output will exceed 1000PS (986 horsepower).

Drawing inspiration from the iconic McLaren F1, the Speedtail will have a centrally-mounted driving position flanked by two seats toward the rear.

Only 106 will be produced and all have sold out despite a £1.75 million (~$2.3 million USD) starting price. Many will presumably fetch a premium via McLaren Special Operations "boundless tailoring."

The Speedtail is one of 18 new cars and derivatives that will be announced under the company's Track25 business plan. Production is expected to begin at the end of next year.
