Damaged wiring harnesses can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.Mercedes-Benz has identified a defect in the 2017 E300 Sedan, including the 4Matic variant. The company in July encountered a wiring problem involving an internal test vehicle. A subsequent investigation determined that a wiring harness behind the rear seat is prone to damage via contact with the seat frame.
The wire bundle is connected to the fuel pump, fuel tank pressure sensor and fuel level gauge. Damage can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash, however Mercedes-Benz has not cited any reports of associated accidents.
The campaign affects a total of nearly 6,900 vehicles sold in the US market, with production date ranges from mid-December 2015 through the end of June 2016.
Service technicians will simply reroute the fuel tank wiring to prevent damage.
