Mercedes-Benz EQ S flagship electric sedan on track for 2020?

Taking aim at the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, the EQ S is expected to be built upon a dedicated EV platform.

Mercedes-Benz is reportedly planning to launch its all-electric flagship sedan, the EQ S, sometime in 2020.

The company earlier this year announced that the sedan will be the third model in the EQ range, one of 10 EVs planned for launch by 2022.

An Autocar report now claims the EQ S will be ready in just two years, following on the heels of the recently revealed EQ C crossover and the EQ A hatchback.

Unlike the EQ C and EQ A, the EQ S is expected to be among the first EQ models to be underpinned by a dedicated electric platform architecture. The flat floor is said to bring unique proportions compared to the company's traditional E- and S-Class sedans.

The EQ S promises to have extremely short overhangs and could fulfill executives' recent hints at a more radical design to help distinguish the EQ sub-brand from its internal combustion siblings.

The EQ C will not begin rolling off the assembly line until mid-2019, and only in small numbers at first.
