Multiple electrical issues can combine and cause inadvertent airbag deployment, blamed for several minor injuries in the US.

Daimler is preparing to recall more than a million vehicles to prevent inadvertent airbag deployment. The company has discovered a problem that can cause the airbag to unexpectedly trigger due to a combination of factors including bad electrical grounds, a broken clock spring in the steering wheel and an electrostatic discharge.

The company told Reuters the problems have been blamed for minor bruises or abrasions in a handful of incidents involving vehicles sold in the US market.

The defect is said to be limited to the front driver-side airbag and is unrelated to the Takata debacle.

Service technicians will add new grounding to the steering system to prevent failures.
