Modified Honda Civic 'deathkart' owner dies in head-on crash

Authorities have concluded that the car was no longer street legal despite retaining its original registration.

The owner of an extensively modified Honda Civic has died in a fatal crash in Virginia.

Anthony Dillard was reportedly making a left turn across traffic in his self-described 'deathkart' when he lost control and slid into oncoming traffic, according to CBS17.

Authorities initially believed the car was a go-kart but later determined that it was registered as a Honda Civic. Police say the car was no longer street legal but have not yet concluded if the modifications were a contributing factor in the accident.

Reports suggest Dillard was ejected from the vehicle. Pictures taken before the accident show racing seats with harnesses among the many modifications. It is unclear if he was wearing the seat belts, however.
