The revised GT is said to be faster than a Porsche 911, thanks to a revised 5.0-liter V8 with 460 horsepower.

Ford's revised Mustang GT is the fastest ever, introducing a new Drag Strip mode that sets a zero-to-60 mph benchmark below four seconds.Engineers revised the Coyote 5.0-liter V8 to deliver 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The 'drag' system manages engine torque and shifting sequences from the GT's 10-speed automatic gearbox, optimizing power delivery to the optional Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires to reduce slip.

"Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time," says Mustang chief engineer Carl Widmann, proudly claiming the GT is faster than a $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera. "In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn't drop when you're shifting."

The company has also upgraded its EcoBoost-powered Mustang, retuning the turbocharged four-cylinder engine for 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque -- up 30 pound-feet compared to the outgoing edition.

With the Drag Strip feature and 10-speed gearbox, the four-cylinder package can launch to 60 mph in less than five seconds.

The company will open its order books for the 2018 Mustang this week.
