It's still about a year away from its official debut, but new details have emerged on Toyota's upcoming FT-86 coupe.

Toyot's FT-86 sports coupe continues to inch toward production with new details on the Subaru-based car surfacing earlier today. The Toyota FT-86 is expected to debut later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show.

According to the latest report, the FT-86 will bow with the same 305 horsepower 2.5L boxer-four used in the Subaru Impreza STI. Earlier reports suggested that the base model would receive a 2.0L engine generating 200 horsepower.

The FT-86 will also arrive with rear-wheel drive, which is intended to help differentiate the Toyota version of the car from its Subaru twin. The Subaru version of the coupe will arrive for 2013 with all-wheel drive.

Although both Toyota and Subaru were originally eying a $20,000 price point, spiraling development costs will likely drive the coupe's price to $25,000 and above. Still, given the FT-86's turbocharged heart, the coupe should make for quite the performance bargain.
