A drawing was shown briefly hanging on Ford's studio wall.
The cast of the latest The Fast & The Furious franchise is really bad at keeping secrets. First star Vin Diesel accidentally revealed the Dodge Demon a couple of weeks ago. Now Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may have revealed plans for an upcoming Bullitt Edition Ford Mustang.
The actor known as The Rock posted the potentially revealing video to his YouTube channel on January 31. In it, he visits several Ford facilities near Detroit, including the design studio and -30 degree wind tunnel, to shoot some commercials.
As observant members of the Mustang6G forum noticed, at 3:09 in the video drawings on the studio wall show a dark (Highland?) green sixth-gen Mustang with black Torq Thrust-style 5-spoke wheels. They also note a faux gas cap on the rear with what looks like a "crosshair" logo, something seen on previous Bullitt edition Mustangs.
Since 2001, each iteration of the Mustang has had a Bullitt edition, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see one for the sixth-gen. Inspired by the 1968 Steve McQueen film of the same name, the modern Bullitts were styled after the 1968 Mustang GT that starred in a memorable car chase sequence. The fourth-gen started out with 5,582 units produced, while in 2008-09 6,624 fifth-gen Bullitts were made.
Since this was a Ford sanctioned ad, it's quite possible that the leak was actually intentional. If not, though, the Fate of the Furious cast really needs to be more careful. Otherwise watch for Charlize Theron to accidentally reveal the new Supra in a few weeks.
