Nissan has yet to comment on what's under the hood.

After fitting a GT-R drivetrain to the Juke crossover and developing a hot hatch version of the Leaf, Nissan's Nismo tuning arm turned its attention to the Micra city car.

The final product will make its debut this weekend at the Tokyo Auto Salon, an international tuning expo similar to the SEMA show that takes place in Las Vegas. Nissan has opted to release two images of the car's exterior to give the public a preview of what to expect.

The Micra Nismo sits on model-specific alloy wheels and its ground clearance has been lowered by several inches. It wears a full body kit that includes a roof-mounted spoiler and a rear diffuser, and it is finished in a pearl white, a color not available on the run-of-the-mill Micra that is usually found meandering around crowded European cities.

At the time of writing interior photos are not available, but according to Nissan the steering wheel and the front seats have been redesigned to go with the car's sporty demeanor.

The Japanese brand has kept quiet on what is under the Micra Nismo's hood, but a full set of technical details will be made available over the weekend.

At this stage the Micra Nismo is just a concept car and it has not yet been given the green light for production. However, Nissan's partner Renault a city car on steroids called the Twingo R.S., so it wouldn't come as a surprise if the Micra Nismo gets added to the Nissan catalog in the future.
