The company wants to become the global leader in pickups and frame-based SUVs by 2022.
Nissan has revealed the Terra, a rugged frame-based SUV that will be sold in China and other Asian markets.
Unibody crossovers have continued to steal market share from body-on-frame SUVs in the US market. One in six Nissan vehicles sold globally is a frame-based model or light commercial vehicle, however, and the company aims to dominate the frame-based pickup and SUV market by increasing sales more than 40 percent through 2022.
"We have the Nissan Terra arriving soon, the award-winning Nissan Navara is now in 133 markets worldwide, and more drivers are purchasing our LCVs around the world," says Nissan's senior VP for frame and LCV business, Ashwani Gupta.
The Terra will arrive first in China this spring.
