If launched, the car's debut is at least three years away.
France's Peugeot is said to be mulling the launch of a four-door coupe that will take on the Volkswagen Passat CC, a new report indicates.
Aimed at a young and trendy target audience, the car will ride on the same platform as the 508 sedan but it will be lower, wider and shorter. It will wear an aggressive design and its front fascia might be loosely inspired by the Onyx supercar that bowed as a concept at last September's Paris Motor Show.
Technical details have yet to be released but the car will undoubtedly be powered by the usual assortment of Peugeot's gasoline- and diesel-burning four-cylinder engines. France's Automobile Magazine speculates that the range-topping trim-level will be offered with a variation of the 200-horsepower HYbrid4 system that is available in the allroad-like RXH and the Citroën DS5, among others.
By launching a halo car, Peugeot hopes that it will be able to enhance its image as it tries to move past the financial issues that have plagued it for over year.
If the rumor proves true, Peugeot's entry into the four-door sedan niche will hit showrooms across Europe in 2015 at the very earliest.
