"Just to preclude any misunderstandings: the Porsche 911, Type 992 is not an electric sports car," the company clarifies.
The 992-generation model is presented in camouflage, likely kicking off a promotional campaign that will slowly reveal more details ahead of a full unveiling.
The director of the 911 model line, August Achleitner, has explained Porsche's strategy in integrating new technologies. As the industry shifts toward automation and electrification, Achleitner thinks back to the 'outdated' navigation system found in the 996 -- "the car suffers for it," he says.
"Even where the public might be expecting a bigger 'wow factor,' in the long run a certain aesthetic reserve pays dividends," the executive says.
The Type 992 will not arrive with electric motors, though Porsche claims "it could be an option somewhere down the line."
The company is expected to unveil the next-gen 911 sometime later this year as a 2019 model.
