Spied: 2020 Porsche 911 GT3 caught testing at the 'ringby Byron Hurd
Porsche has kept mum on its next homologation special.
Spies in Germany have photographed that they claim to be the next-generation Porsche 911 GT3 testing at the Nürburgring.
Unfortunately, this prototype is also missing (or hiding) all of its interesting bits. Both the front and rear aerodynamic touches are obscured by tacked-on cladding, and it appears that Porsche is still experimenting with the spacial relationship between the GT3's wheels and its fenders.
Porsche, as usual, is playing things close to the chest with its development of upcoming 911 variants. While turbocharging has spread throughout Porsche's lineup, signals regarding the GT3's powerplant have been mixed, to say the least.
Last month, a rumor surfaced that the GT3 would boast a tweaked version of the Porsche 911 Turbo's engine that would offer roughly 515 horsepower. Given that the high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six in the current model makes nearly that much, we're not quite sure what to make of the story.
With public testing underway, it's only a matter of time before audio recordings surface. Until then, we're left to wonder. Porsche's transmission offerings remain to be seen as well, though the fact that the company committed to offering a manual in the current GT3 gives us some hope.
