Report confirms Mazda Miata update with 181 hp, higher redline

The revised MX-5 will gain 26 horsepower over the current model, along with a list of other minor upgrades.

Corroborating recent rumors, the refreshed Mazda MX-5 Miata has been extensively detailed by Japanese magazine Car Watch.

The report appears to confirm an extra 26 horsepower for the roadster, bumping the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine's output to 181 horsepower. Drivers can also stay on the throttle all the way up to 7,500 rpm.

The revised engine is paired with a new dual-mass flywheel and updated exhaust system.

The roadster could also become more comfortable for many drivers, thanks to a telescoping steering wheel.

When asked if the same changes will be on the way to the US market at some point, Mazda told Road and Track it "can't comment at this time."
