Tesla to drop cheapest 75 kWh version of Model S, X

The change will widen the gap between the Model 3 and higher-end models.

Tesla is apparently preparing to drop the entry-level configurations for the Model S and Model X.

The company will no longer sell the 75-kWh versions of both vehicles, forcing buyers to jump to a 100-kWh package.

For the Model S, the 75D is priced at $76,000 while the 100D starts at $94,000. The Model X currently starts at $82,000 for the 75D and jumps to $97,000 with the 100-kWh battery.

"Starting on Monday, Tesla will no longer be taking orders for the 75 kWh version of the Model S & X. If you'd like that version, please order by Sunday night," Musk wrote on Twitter.

The changes will widen the gap between the Model 3 and the more expensive Model S/X configurations. The company expects to launch the $35,000 entry-level Model 3 later this year.
