Volkswagen poaches Tesla Model S/X program manager

Matthew Renna will now be responsible for VW\'s \'MEB\' modular electrified platform architecture.

Volkswagen has apparently poached Tesla's program manager for the Model S and X.

Matthew Renna has been appointed vice president of Volkswagen North America, responsible for managing the NAR-G4 team, "steering objectives for the Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) line" that underpins the company's upcoming EVs.

"Matt brings an outstanding combination of financial acumen, engineering depth and product program management- all within the electric vehicle space," says VWNA chief Hinrich Woebcken. "His experience and leadership will be a tremendous asset as we strengthen our electric vehicle position in North America and we are excited to welcome him to Volkswagen."

Renna previously served at Tesla, initially joining as an electrical engineer in 2013 before moving on to powertrain finance. He spent a year as the Model 3 product manager in 2015 before switching to his most recent role as Model S and X program manager from 2016-2018.

"Electrification is a mission close to my heart, and I am excited for this new adventure with VW!" Renna wrote on LinkedIn.
