The parking brake can fail, potentially allowing the car to roll away.
Toyota has announced a recall program for the 2016-2017 Prius sedan.
The company has identified a defect that makes the parking brake prone to failure. If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission out of 'park' while the ignition is on, the problem increases the risk of a rollaway and crash.
"Toyota dealers will add clips on the top of the brake cable dust boots to prevent the cable from becoming inoperative at no cost to customers," the company said in a statement.
The company expects to begin distributing notification letters next month, with approximately 92,000 vehicles on the repair list.
The announcement comes less than a month after the 2016 Prius was recalled for a separate issue involving inadvertent partial inflation of the passenger air bag.
