New Toyota Land Cruiser coming to Frankfurtby Ronan Glon
Toyota promises it\'s not going soft with the Land Cruiser.
Toyota has announced plans to introduce a new Land Cruiser at the Frankfurt Auto Show, which opens its doors to the press on September 12th.
We know very little about the next-generation Land Cruiser; we've never seen spy shots of it, and we don't even have a dark, overly-stylized teaser image to share with you. Toyota assures us it's not going soft, however.
The Land Cruiser will continue to ride on a rugged body-on-frame architecture, which allows it to offer a generous towing capacity and segment-leading off-road chops.
The current Land Cruiser (pictured) uses a 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. It returns 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway, figures that are hardly acceptable in today's market. We expect Toyota has found a way to build a more efficient SUV, but we don't think it's downsizing to a six-cylinder engine.
Stay tuned, we'll find out more about the next-generation Land Cruiser in the coming weeks. Leftlane will be on-location in Germany to bring you live images of the Land Cruiser -- and the rest of the action -- straight from the show floor.
The 2018 Land Cruiser is already on sale, so the new model will arrive in time for the 2019 model year. Pricing will start in the vicinity of $85,000.
