The aerodynamic package includes a new front splitter, side sills and rear spoiler extension.

Volvo has revealed composite aerodynamic upgrades for the 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar.Engineers at Volvo's Polestar division worked alongside familiar colleagues at Cyan Racing to develop components that provide tangible benefits beyond the sportier appearance of bare carbon fiber.

With a new front splitter, side sills and seemingly modest rear spoiler extension, the lightweight enhancements are claimed to increase downforce by 30 percent.

"The new components increase grip and high-speed stability, providing a car with the duality of being at ease in everyday driving as well as providing the driver with further control and feedback on an inspiring stretch of road or during an evasive maneuver for example," the company says.

Aside from the aerodynamically functional elements, the vehicles are distinguished by black high-gloss diamond-cut wheels and carbon fiber door mirror casings.

The carbon-clad sedan and wagon carry over the 367-horsepower Drive-E engine of the standard Polestar models.

Volvo says it will only build 1,500 examples.
