Volvo Trucks reveals cabless autonomous electric semi

With no need for a human driver, the Vera truck is a simple battery-powered sled that is barely higher than its wheels.

Volvo Trucks has revealed the Vera, an autonomous cabless electric semi.

The sled has been designed to initially accommodate short-haul drayage operations, such as moving cargo around shipping ports or railyards.

Each vehicle is connected to a control center that manages the entire fleet, monitoring progress and keeping track of battery status, load content, service requirements and other information.

Individual vehicles are also equipped with typical autonomous driving sensors to analyze the local environment and choose appropriate responses.

The Vera uses the same driveline and battery pack as Volvo Trucks' electric semi, due to enter production sometime next year.
