Polestar's first model could be a stand-alone hybrid coupe.
Polestar, the high-performance tuning arm of Volvo, is set to unveil a new mystery model on October 17, a new report claims.
The model set to be revealed on October 17 will be Polestar's first stand-alone model. It remains unknown, however, if the vehicle will be a concept or a vehicle bound for production.
Although details are scarce, it's believed that Polestar's first car could be a two-door coupe based on the Volvo Concept Coupe (pictured) that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Volvo, which acquired the Polestar brand a couple of years ago, is keen on giving it's performance division a unique identity, which would support the idea of a new coupe model.
Like the concept, Polestar's new model is expected to employ a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Output is unknown, but rumored to be as high as 600 horsepower. That kind of firepower would give Polestar the kind of performance chops to take on Mercedes' AMG and BMW's M.
Stay tuned for full details later this month.
