VW's Electrify America to install EV chargers at Walmarts

The initiative will start with 100 Walmart locations spread across 34 states.

Volkswagen's Electrify America has announced plans to install electric vehicle charging stations at Walmart stores across the country.

The DC fast-charge systems will use a cooled-cable to deliver 150-350 kilowatts of power, estimated to add 20 miles of charge range per minute.

The chargers will be installed at more than 100 Walmart stores in 34 states by June 2019, more than doubling the number of EV chargers at Walmart stores across the country.

"The announcement is expected to make Walmart one of the leading electric vehicle charging station hosts in the US retail sector," Electrify America says.

Funded by Volkswagen's diesel emissions settlement, Electrify America is required to spend $2 billion over the next decade on EV infrastructure and outreach programs. The initiative will build 2,000 chargers across nearly 500 sites by the end of 2019.
