Waymo fleet now driving 25,000 miles per day

The company has doubled its on-road driving to eight million miles in just eight months.

Waymo has continued to ramp up its testing pace on public roads, reaching eight million miles in July.

The fleet has doubled its collective odometer count in just eight months, passing the four-million-mile mark in November of last year.

"This real-world experience, plus over 5 billion miles in simulation, is how we're building the world's most experienced driver," Waymo chief John Krafcik wrote on Twitter.

Leading the pack, the company has secured tens of thousands of Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans and Jaguar I-Pace EVs as it prepares to launch its first public service.

Riders will initially be limited to the Pacifica, with the I-Pace expected to be added to the fleet in 2020. The all-electric crossover will be joined by other models, giving riders more choice between various bodystyles for different types of tasks such as shopping or a night of entertainment.
