Video: BMW’s automatic parking system

Germany’s VOX television channel has a special on BMW’s new iDrive-based automatic parking system. The video shows the car automatically parallel-parking itself in a very tight space, with the single press of a button. The system appears to be radar-based, and provides a clear visual representation of the surroundings on the iDrive screen. Once a spot is found, the car automatically backs in and straightens itself. I think it’s neat technology, but it’s just one more way that people without driving skill will be able to get their licenses. Also, Toyota had something like this before BMW, planned for its JDM Prius.

I’d make it standard on any car sold to NY/NJ driver, a Massachusetts driver, or any girl I marry. :)

I think it is a nice piece of technology, but is it pratical: I don’t think so.
Just keep it out of the vehicles- next thing you know, we will be having the cars that will have the “driving” taken out of driving.
