60 Minutes on Sunday ran a special on the state of General Motors, its recovery plan, and its future. During the show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz and CEO Rick Wagoner previewed a new Cadillac model believed to be the 2008 CTS. While we suspect it may be an upcoming concept, several LLN tipsters insist it is very close to the production model. See all the images after the jump…

  1. The design looks very original to me. Looks great! It should be about this timeframe that we can hold Bob’s feet to the fire on GM designs. So far he gets a free pass from me.

  2. VERY bold design, more so than their current line. However the car looks like a concept to me, the rear bumper is flush with the trunk (much like a concept). I sure hope this is the real deal, and the rest of the car looks as promising as the peaks.

  3. Obviously influenced by the Sixteen, with no complaints from me. Looks terrific.

Now if only they’d go and build the damn Sixteen already! :P

  4. WOW!!! Looks Sharp!! Cannot wait to see it!

I wish they would build the Sixteen as well. Such a beautiful car, inside and out.

  9. Looks way to low to ever by street legal……bumpers are not legal either, interior looks like a toyota interior…..not impressive….yet…maybe when its gets the z06 427 in there….

  11. Great color. May as well go off the charts; they certainly screwed over their historical customer base with s_it like Cimmeron (sp?) and the dull barges they’ve made over the past decade.

I think Lexus, Merc, BMW, et al will have some objection to their coming after their customers. …and how long would it take a BMW customer to make the emotional switch to cheezy GM quality where all they brag about is how hard they squeeze their suppliers? Gotta try tho’ ..

  13. I think GM has finally got it. Its cars that sell and not rebates. GM has great vehicles, quality and style. Everyone needs to stop hating and realize that America needs GM

  14. I’m not sure how the posters here can say GM has ‘got it’. I think the thing looks like every other caddy out there. No single car is going to save GM, who has a leadership that just doesn’t listen to customers and creates cars with tic-tac box plastics and fall apart manufacturing.

  18. “looks kike a MAXIMA on steroids, chrysler 300 grille” HA HA. You’ll be trading in your BMW or Lexus for one as soon as all your friends do.

  20. Looks extremely promising if it’s the next CTS. Give me a V-series manual, and my next car may not be the next generation M3…

  21. They need another V-16 Cadillac Sedan. A whole new league of DTS. Make it a hybrid if you must, but just give me that big rwd American sedan with a huge engine. Excess at its purest form.

  22. GM is making huge strides; after mediocre Lumina and Deville I bought two Toyotas. They were better built cars, but no personality at all. I love the new look at GM, because so much of it is original, i.e. Avalanche, Malibu Maxx, Solstice, Cadillac SRX. My next new car is definitely GM. I’m ready to give them another shot.

  23. I’ve admitted to friends that I’ve really like Cadillac’s contemporary designs… on the outside. The interiors, I don’t care for as much. But this concept’s interior, I think, completes the package. Very nice. I just hope it’s not too late…

  24. uh, mr lutz, wheres the roof?
but that thing looks really sweet… nice to see the sixtenn cues making it to production… now howsabout that engine?

  27. Now THAT is ONE HOT CAR! I always did like the current CTS - especially after they added the wood trim to the center stack. But this looks like SO much more refined and elegant. LOVE that grille! From what I saw of the roofline with the cover over it, the new CTS will have a very sleek profile while maintaining the edgy look - all without looking so chockablock. Now about that interior…it looks a bit too much like an Lexus crossed with an Acura. And the shifter looks like it was lifted wholesale from the BLS concept. The new CTS simply MUST do better than THAT!

Comment by M. Daryck Woods, posted on April4 at 9:08 am
  28. I totally agree with M. Daryck Woods, if GM is serious about bringing themselves out of the hole they are currently in, they are going to have to improve their lack luster interior! The bold new grille is definitely a step in the right direction, apart from the cheap looking shifter the sweeping ****pit is growing on me, now they just need to refine it.

And John, I too also see that Cadillac has taken some design ques from Audi.

  29. All that beautiful car and the basic things are missing such as a lockable fuel cap and power adjustable pedal…if this is the car of the future, without the basic needed features, Cadillac can throw it back on the drawing board!!!!!!

Comment by Mel, posted on April23 at 6:41 pm
  30. Additionally, all the rounded look that resembles the Audi…I wonder if it is made out of paper or plastic…I am sure it is pliable and not sturdy at all. What ever happened to the material that cars used to be made out of? Does paper or plastic protect one in an accident?

Comment by Mel, posted on April23 at 6:46 pm
  31. I love it! Hey Mel, lockable gas cap and adjustable pedals?! A. Where did you see those were NOT on this car from the pics above?, B. Your an idiot! The guy buying this doesn’t or shouldn’t care about either of those. Stop being a GM basher and accept this thing rocks! All bow to Lutz your new President! Lutz rules! GM is the best! Mel is an idiot! WOO HOO! Opie and Anthony XM satellite radio!!! O&A PARTY ROCK! Ramone!!!, tell Mel he’s an A-hole! Sorry to pick on you Mel…lol.

  32. My next car is either gonna be the 08 cts or the 07 infiniti g35…..or maybe even the 5 series bmw…..this caddy looks good but can the quality compare to infiniti or bmw??

  33. The grille is too big…sort of like putting huge gorgeous boobs on an ugly girl to take attention away from the face…what are they hiding!!?!?!

  34. it looks bloated….

  35. Nice car! It’s about time for some coupes from the major U.S. automakers. Now continue the return to rear wheel drive. Maybe GM will revive the rear drive wagon with decent power and the stylish vista cruiser windows in the roof to compete with the Magnum? No matter how snobbish you may be about your imports the American product has good quality and is hard to beat on what you get for dollar spent. I think it’s great that Cadillac is making a come-back. Half you belly-acheing America Bashers aren’t buying anything anyway. Stop complaining! Say something positive or SHUT UP!

  36. The money that one pays for a Cadillac and it has no adjustable pedals and no locking gas tank…duh, duh.Cadillac must be kidding!!!!! I would like to by a 2006 DTS…am 5ft and need a locking gas tank…I feel confortable with this because my Volvo has one and I would like to have one on the Cadillac that I would like to buy….what a shame!!!!! Who are the engineers for these cars…they did not do their homework…getting paid all that money to not have features that buyers desire!! I guess I have to seek elsewhere….

Comment by maj, posted on May20 at 4:49 pm
  37. Someone please help…is there anyway that a locking gas cap can be installed on the 2006 DTS? I certainly hope the the 2007 comes equipped with one and adjustable pedals like the Malibu… Cadillac, you are behind time…and sort of biased in that the big-ass Escalade comes with adjustable pedals and a lockable gas tank…what gives? Engineers so engrossed in the Escalade and SUV that everyone forgot about the sedan!!!!

Comment by maj, posted on May20 at 4:56 pm
  38. My comment on the 2008 CTS is that it does not seem to have much of a front end and it is too low to the ground…does not seem to have considerable amount of space in the ****pit….we, buyers still want room to move about…

  41. Pros: Great ride … similar to my 2000 Deville. Air con front seats are a must in the South.

Cons: Designers need to go back to the drawing board:
No locking gas cap. Combination of bench seat + Navigation screen … gear shift handle hides 1/2 of the screen. Front door rest handle needs to be extended … no real place to hold on to. Chrome analog clock … nice glare when the sun hits it … looks like crap on a $50k plus car.

  43. I’ve tried alot of cars lately and frankly liked the overall design of the current cts over any other competing car out there, but, with the weak 3.6 v6, its bad 18 miles to the gallon and weak interior i could not buy it. GM fix those items and your in!

  44. it look cool but how will it compet with the new bmw 330i and the 2006 lexus is and 2007 infiniti G35 i hope there will be a cupe version of the 2008 cts

  46. A great evolution of the CTS design theme, which was really edgy and good looking to begin with
