The Koenigsegg CCX posted a new record lap time this past Sunday on Britain’s Top Gear TV show. The car is now the fasted vehicle ever piloted around the track, displacing the Zonda F. The record was set during show’s second test of the car. The first test — a few weeks prior — resulted in “The Stig” losing control of the CCX and crashing off Top Gear’s famous test track. The car’s unpredictable handling was attributed to the lack of a rear wing, which is generally standard equipment on any supercar. Koenigsegg fitted the CCX with a wing, and the results were much better. Video and pictures after the jump…

yeah the spoiler gives more downforce to the rear of the car which means more grip, less oversteer but it limits the top speed of the car, i think with the wing the cars top speed has reduced from 250mph to around 240-245mph just as a guess. #7 this is interesting news as i didnt know about the spoiler being an option and anyway, look at the top gear lap time board, the Konigsegg CCX beats the Enzo, MC12, Zonda F, Ariel Atom….need i say more? its AMAZING and perfect in everyway, who needs a veyron with 10 radiators and a hugeee engine. You gotta respect a 4.7 V8 that gets very good performance like this. like i said…perfect.

The wing option was recently added. Until about 3 months ago the wing was not an option and was deemed unnecessary because it was N OT designed with road racing in mind. The goal of top speed precludes the addition of anything but a VERY expensive and movable wing and extra hp/taller gearing to reach the desired top speed stated at development. I will point you to EVERY CCX photographed and not ONE wing is seen until this car. And Top Gear usually reairs, albeit almost a season late, on Discovery Channel, keep checking and it might come up. Or we could all try writing Rupert Murdoch and try to get him to make speed the not always nascar network and buy the rebroadcast rights earlier in the season, they do refilm intros and the hanger shots to include prices in dollars and US availability. Plus this year will supposedly be shortened because of the World Cup, or thats what they claimed at the end of last season.

Koenigsegg PR-shots never have wings but with many customers I have seen have small wings behind. Rear wing has been option from day 1. labeled as “for serious track racing”.
Car is designed to all-around track and top speed.

See, I knew the CCX had it in it. Stig knew too.
It’s a young company trying to get it right - with that wing it’s not doing badly.
Still stand by my thoughts from when I first saw the CC with the triple lights up front (removed for aerodynamics) - the Koenigsegg is one of the most desirable supercars ever… As is the Ford GT..
But the Ford GT40 seems even better in the Hi-Tech replica form than even Ford’s own GT… anyway, back to the point: Koenigsegg’s cars have been passion fueled and amazing to behold since I laid eyes on them. Now they work well around a track too - BONUS

Have you seen their racing styles? Neither are even close. The Stig is smooth and controled whereas Needell is a freaking maniac who tries to drift every car he gets into whether or not it was made for it. He may look cool driving but the Stig would take him any day.

Tiff likes to drift, but he also knows how to drive ‘properly’ around a track. In addition to F1 experience he’s also been a Le Mans driver.
It would be somewhat surprising for Tiff to drive on a competing show, but stranger things have happened.

Tiff and jeremy clarkson worked together on the old Top Gear before it was cancelled and clarkson bought the rights. I heard Quentin Wilson accepted a contract elsewhere before being asked to do the new Top Gear so that might have happened to Tiff as well. I’m glad they didn’t ask that woman from 5th gear back to Top Gear as she is more annoying than Richard Hammond and that is saying something

Give me Hammond any day compared to the dull, insipid presenters on 5th Gear. Sure they give an interesting look at the cars, but its all so boring. At least Top Gear uses a bit of humor, a bit of imagination to present the show.
