Ford won't "Crown Vic" the Explorer

Ford won't skip product overhauls or leave old cars on the market as it has done with the Crown Victoria going forward, says one Ford insider. "I think we are done letting products wither on the vine, so I don't think we will Crown Vic the Explorer," the source told Business Week. While the Crown Vic is clearly Ford's worst example, a similar problem has hurt sales of the Focus. Ford skipped a whole cycle redesigning the compact car, and, as previously reported, it finally caught up to them. The Leftlane Perspective: It's good to see "Crown Vic" is a verb at Ford. Hopefully they realize how important it is to avoid this mistake going forward.
