Video: Ultima GTR sets 1/4 mile world record

The Ultima Factory has recorded yet another blistering statistic with the multiple world record holding Ultima GTR supercar. Driven by Ultima director, Richard Marlow, the GTR recorded a standing 1/4 mile time of 9.9secs @ 143mph terminal speed at the FIA approved and verified Santa Pod Raceway. Previously, we reported that the 720 hp Ultima GTR had set a record for the 0-100mph-0 run. The GTR720 was pitched against a standard 345bhp Corvette C5, which doubled as a camera car to help demonstrate the mind-boggling performance of the GTR720. The Leftlane Perspecitve: While it’s not entirely clear what the “world record” pertains to, we suspect it means for a production, factory spec, road-legal car. Gallery and videos after the jump…

Now, that Ultima, that is one hell of a car! Ah to be one of the engineers on that project! I’m jealous.

Since when is 9.9 seconds a world record? Do they mean for a production car?

Most supercars don’t even publish their 1/4 mile times because it is inconsequential once you break pass 10’s.

Put a lingenfelter vette up there, and that stupid GTR will get owned. Because the lingenfelter vette makes mid-9’s ON LOW BOOST.

Jeff,

You can buy the car kit and assemble yourself. It’s not like being an engineer, but it may satisfy your wish to a degree. If I didn’t live in the city, I would be doing just that.

Johnny the lingenfelter twin turbo 427 c-6 takes 13 seconds for the quarter because it can’t transfer it’s power to the pavement and when it does the car eats the differential, read the supercar shootout in motor trend. The Ultima on the other hand is beautiful, powerful, so fast you would break every speed limit within 3 seconds and make a hell of a lot of beautiful V-8 noise in the process.

I think the rims need to be changed. If they found the right rims for it, it won’t look like a cheap kit car. Don’t get me wrong, I like kit cars, but I just don’t like things looking chintzy.

Hey Shut Up,

When Britian puts man on the moon, then talk about their engineering. The chassis is nice, though.

Note that the engine in this thing is American…just as most other specialty British cars have. Sometimes 40year old American technology is all it takes to whip some ass.

que - as opposed to the US who fake it?

That car is impressive and how come the large engine isn’t good enough for American barge-like cars?

Look at the noble - european ford engine… still impressive.

JohnnyBlazE,

US fake it? Fake what? Like I said, put man on the moon, then lets talk about engineering.

The Ultimas big engine is “not good enough” for the big barges cause the objectives are so different. I thought everyone knew that.

It’s an impressive car, but let’s put that in perspective, they have modified Evo’s beating the times posted by this car. I just saw a video of an Evo doing a 1/4 at 9.13 seconds at 162mph, about .8 seconds faster than this Ultima car.

Both cars are fast, but I’ll take the Evo, cause at least the ride won’t be as cramped, plus I can bring more than one friend along for the ride if I wanted to.

Hey Japan, you’ve proeven several time throughout this comment section, that you, 1. Don’t have a CL550, 2. You are not wealthy because wealthy people don’t act as ignorant as you do 3. A new CL550 will not touch a C6 Z06, because the CL is 0-60 in 5 sec. (only .4 faster than the S550), In fact the base C6 is faster. And lastly if you were weathly you wouldn’t come in here like an ignoramous, and start posting ****y comments, you personify all the qualities of someone who contributes nothing to this world, has a low self-image (which is why you need to boost yourself up by saying your rich), and will more than likely have absolutely no impact of any significance ever. Why don’t you chew over before you post again! F_A_G

You yanks crack me up, modern otto four stroke engine is a German design. Two stroke gasoline engine is British. Germany invented the diesel engine. British the Steam Engine. Germany/Britain the Jet engine (there is some conjecture whether it is British or German). Swiss invented the turbocharger. Internal Combustion Engine, Dutch British or Swiss. Disk brakes British, Super charger German. Chineese invented Rockets, liquid fueled rockets by a Russian. The only reason NASA exists today is the fact the American rounded up all the German rocket engineers and said work for us or else.
