Turning a Miata into an Aston Martin

Australian car customizer Custom Automotive Restyling has created a rebodied Mazda MX-5 Miata designed to look like an Aston Martin. Called the AMX-07, the car was created for fitness instructor Michael Lebedev, who won the “Dare to be Different” award at a local tuning show for his Miata. The kit is worth $7,500 in Australian dollars (over $5,000 U.S.). Gallery after the jump…

Excellent job on the rear end, the front leaves so much to be desired. I’m not so keen on the way the trunk latch is. What happens if the inside cable release doesn’t work? No way you’ll get your key in there.
And the rims are just awful. Can I buy half the kit for $2,500 U.S.?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. The new MX-5 is the best looking one yet, don’t fark with it.

The previous generation is ‘the ugly’ though.

They’re just trying to put out something to compete with the sexy Solstice and Sky because the Miata is such a dog in its current form.

Smarten up and buy a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky. Don’t waste any more money on a girlie Miata

Yes, its a retarded kit car but still a nice job for 5k…This car is way less embarassing than the classic Fiero-based Testarossa kit or F40 kit BUT not as good as the Wicked Porsche Boxster-to-Carrera GT Kit (but that costs like 30k+ just for the conversion)…

all that style with a stock miata engine. i’d put in at least a turbo, but more preferably a supercharger with a catback exhaust.

Looks OK except for the seemingly excessive front overhang and variously-spaced panel gaps. All that car needs now is a huge-ass turbo + intercooler and a re-mapped ECU.

FIERO… yes that’s it, the Miata has sunk that low on the cool scale.

Seriously, Mazda: get the Kabura off the drawing board before you sink the whole brand down to Pontiac’s (pre-Solstice) level.

GMrules, if you ever rode in or drove my turbocharged Miata you wouldn’t consider it a “girlie ride”.

And to compare to the Solstice and Sky that you adore, the new Miata is faster and handles better. And once MAZDASPEED gets its hands on it (to compete with the upcoming turbocharged Solstice / Sky), it will be an even more incredible car.

Not sure how the Miata “earned” its “girlie car” stigma. It’s the best selling roadster of all time, and out-handles almost anything on the road. The lack of power is easily fixed, as there are plenty of turbocharger and supercharger kits on the market, and the Miata engine responds very well to modifications.

As an owner of an NB, I can only say this isn’t an improvement. The front looks like lips trying to give a kiss. Sorry, my MX-5 doesn’t follow anyone to kiss. The back end seems to lend extra storage room which would be welcome. However, when viewing from the side it is obvious the front wheel wells weren’t engineered properly and looks rather - lame. And as for the comment about the Solstice or the Sky, well, the Soltice just couldn’t cut it and the jury is still out on the Sky. They have a long way to catch up to the MX-5.
