Mazda to quit incentives game? -updated

Mazda is preparing to end all sales incentives for new models in the United States, according to the Nihon Keizai newspaper. The CX-7 will be the first vehicle to see incentives removed, and the policy will eventually filter down to all new models. Currently, Mazda's incentives average around $1800 per vehicle. Deep incentives have been blamed for shrinking profit margins at Mazda and other automakers. Update: A Mazda spokesperson has denied the Nihon Keizai report. "There is no truth to it," Jeremy Barnes told Edmunds. He said Mazda wants to reduce incentives, but not eliminate them entirely.
