Report: Ford planning to cut 6,000 jobs

Following its announcement of a 21 percent cut in production, Ford may eliminate 6,000 salaried jobs next month, according to a Bloomberg source familiar with the plan. The reductions equate to about 16 percent of the white-collar workforce at Ford. "Things are going to get worse before they get better," David Healy, an analyst with Burnham Securities Inc. in Sierra Vista, Arizona, said yesterday. "All of the earnings estimates being published on Ford right now are basically worthless." Earlier this year, Ford announced plans to layoff 30,000 workers and close 14 manufacturing facilities by 2012.
